Master Yoga Teacher Sharat Arora spent 7 years studying with and assisting his Guruji BKS Iyengar. In the 160Hr Intensive Yoga Course students have the opportunity to learn from him. His unique evolution of Iyengar Yoga is a practice based on 42 years experience & heals the whole body through finding freedom of breath and balance of bio-energy through aligned Yoga Asanas, fully aware practice of pranayana as well as Meditation.

These Ashram Yoga retreats are held in silence and in the seclusion of nature with over 160 hours of classes and self-practice time. These 3 weeks are designed for serious practitioners to use the Yoga as a profound self-exploration & true self-transformation tool in a most convenient ambience away from the distractions of modernity and everyday life.

Students will benefit from an intense and intensive program of daily Iyengar Yoga practice and personalised correction as well as receive tips on how to modify the postures and props to be able to continue a self-practice at home.

Intensive Course Description

On the 160Hr Intensive Courses we use the Yoga Asanas at their subtlest level, understanding and feeling the body’s alignment in the practice of both yoga asanas and pranayama. We learn to remove blockages and so how to allow the free flow of energy for maximum healing of the body and mind.

These 3-week long intense Yoga Courses should be considered as a Himalayan Yoga retreat during which you dedicate your ENTIRE energy to go inwards and therefore undergo a deep spiritual self-study & evolution.

We run only a few 160Hr Yoga Intensive Courses per year with specific themes related to physical, mental & spiritual health. Each course is unique according to Master Teacher’s inspiration. The Yoga classes, Meditation and lectures will follow a similar program on different Intensive Courses although the teaching approach and focus will differ, building up an experiential understanding of the course subject.

"Pranic Healing - Intensive Course”: In this course we focus on the breath and movement of bio-energy. Having experienced true alignment in the postures we use the breath to remove barriers obstructing life force from moving freely.

"Chakras & Evolution of Consciousness Intensive Course”: Consciousness evolves when specific attention is paid to the movement of energy upwards in the Yoga postures. This technology is explored experientially through focused sequences of yoga asanas as well as pranayama & meditation sessions.

“Pranic Healing Intensive Course: the art of healing oneself with the breath”
  • In this course we use the breath to focus our attention on the subtlest aspects of Yoga Asana Pranayama and Meditation. Firstly we build up the Iyengar Yoga Practice to understand body alignment experientially, feeling it in both Yoga Asanas as well as Pranayama.
  • Having explored and experienced the right movements and adjustments in all the core postures, we learn how to reach all the areas of the body with specific groups of Yoga Asanas and to benefit them with Pranayama technique. We then learn how to remove any blockages by directing the breath to those areas thereby gaining a sense of well-being and freedom.
  • By practising aware breathing in the Pranayama sessions we experience energetic empowerment and altered states of mind.
  • “Pranic Healing” is an Intensive Yoga Course that requires a great subtlety of consciousness and is recommended for those who want to dive deeply inwards.

“Chakras & Evolution of Consciousness”
  • Hatha Yoga is the study of the energy within us which rises upwards from the bottom of the spine to the top of the head, moving through important vortexes of the body called Chakras. This energy is also called ‘Kundalini’ and these Chakras represent our crucial energy centres and therefore different physical, mental & spiritual functions of the human body system.
  • Through Iyengar Yoga Practice we can release blockages in any of these Chakras. This allows our energies to express themselves fully so that we can live more happy & fulfilling lives.
  • In this Intensive Yoga Course we learn which yoga postures operate on which Chakras and how to balance - stimulate or pacify - them. Thus we understand how our Yoga Practice effects a subtle but definite evolution in our consciousness bringing it to a purer state.

Yoga Sutras of Patanjali - all students will be asked to read this text which can be considered our “Yoga Bible”. During the course Master Teacher will refer to the Sutras, both in the evening Yoga Philosophy lecture sessions as well as practically in the Yoga Asana Classes. Students will thus become familiar with both the concepts and the applications of this core text of Yoga Philosophy.

About the Pranayama - The Intensive Yoga Course is also a Course in Pranayama during which we lay the foundations for Pranayama practice in a safe and comfortable manner. Master Teacher Sharat Arora will teach students the technique he learned from his Guruji BKS Iyengar, building it up over the course of the three weeks so that the student can continue to develop in their practice after they leave the Ashram.

Silent Ashram Yoga Retreat:
  • The Intensive Yoga Course will be held in silence. We will be storing your phones, tablets, laptops, iPods and any other digital devices, as well as books, for the duration of the course
  • You may not interact with the other students, including talking, physical or eye contact
  • Students may be asked to leave the course without a refund if they repeatedly break the silence and disturb fellow students

Day 7:
The day will be free. It is compulsory for all participants to collectively practise the Pranayama without a teacher. Participants may not leave the Ashram or attempt to contact the outside world in any way.

*Please note: Yoga and Pranayama classes, as well as talks and Q&A sessions conducted by Master Yoga Teacher Sharat Arora may be recorded by audio, video and photography for the purpose of archiving the teachings.

Location

The course takes place at the Himalaya Shanti Ashram. Our beautiful and isolated location in the Himalayan facilitates the journey inwards which enhances a deeper and more focused spiritual practice. Days off can be spent in contemplation of nature and swimming in the river. Our Organic Permaculture farm will provide much of your daily food to nourish you in the best way possible.

The three weeks of the 160Hr Intensive Course form the first half of the 320Hr Yoga Teachers Training Course with Master Teacher Sharat Arora. Upon completing the Intensive Course students qualify for the Yoga TTC immediately after OR another Yoga Teacher Training within 1 year.

Booking & Deposit

Requirements for Participation
The necessary prerequisite for participation is to complete three 5-Day Yoga Courses at the Himalayan Iyengar Yoga Centre BEFORE the Intensive Course starts, OR the 12-Day Yoga & Meditation Silent Retreat at the Yoga Ashram. However, for those who are new to the practice and who do not have time for the three weeks beforehand we offer a special 9-Day Course after which you will be fully prepared for the 160Hr Intensive Course. Anyone who is coming back to us after a break from regular practice, i.e. if your 5-Day Courses were more than 3 months prior to the course start, or if they were within 3 months and you have NOT sustained a regular self-practice, must attend the final two days of the 9-Day Course as a Refresher Course or a regular 5-Day Course in Dharamkot or Goa immediately preceding the Immersion Course.

9-Day Prerequisite Course Schedule:
The 9-Day Prerequisite course will take place in the Ashram or in Dharamkot Centre the 9 days immediately preceding the Intensive Course. 12-Day Yoga & Meditation Silent Retreat will take place in the Ashram twice a year.

Students from abroad can avail 10% early-bird discount on bookings made at least 3 months prior to the course start date.

Students from India as well as other SAARC countries can avail a 20% early-bird discount on bookings made at least 3 months before the course starts & 10% on later bookings.
