Himalayan Iyengar Yoga Centre
in Dharamkot, Dharamsala and in Arambol, Goa

Both established in 1985 by Anand Sagar (Sharat Arora) a long term student of BKS Iyengar.
Sharat’s priority of living and practicing in a natural environment led him to choose Goa, best known for the safest beaches in India and Dharamsala situated in the himalayas. The centre offers various yoga and meditation courses to suit the students requirement and time frame. There are basic yoga classes, yoga classes for a week, intensive yoga course, yoga teacher's training courses, therapy courses and yoga for women.
The courses are informative, motivational and above all experiential.
For details go on courses.

5-Day Yoga Courses

5-Day Yoga Courses are offered that immerse the participant into the essence of Yoga, both into its philosophical and practical aspects. During these Courses, a student is taught everything that is essential to maintain a regular practice.

The Course is informative, motivational and - above all - experiential. If the student then wishes to continue at HIYC, they may join another class to explore the subject in greater detail. In order to encourage long- term study at the Centre, there is a different theme and focus each week.

Intensive Courses

Intensive Courses are offered at various times in the year, for students interested in exploring the subtler aspects of the subject and in devoting more time to self practice. The Intensive Courses focus on developing postural skills and deepening students' understanding of Yoga philosophies.

The aspects include: Pranayama (balancing through breath); learning a more diverse array of Asanas in order to open specific blockages in body and mind; techniques to generate and store energy; & various tools used in meditation. The goal of these teachings is to increase understanding & provide resources to further develop one's practice.

The Teacher's Training Course

The Teacher's Training Course prepares students on the Path of Yoga to share their enthusiasm and knowledge with others, and to learn how to help our brothers and sisters realize their full potential in life.
We learn to diagnose body and mind sets, identify blockages, and discover the impact of Yoga through exploration of our own bodies.

There will be detailed analyses of each posture and how they are used for different needs. These learning will then be put into practice with a group of beginner students, in order to gain confidence in instruction, correction of imbalance, sequencing of poses, and handling of various class situations.
